Forgive the venting....
The not so great week ended badly today - 5 1/2 hrs in the ER, badly. I had to take my mom in because she went to war with an ironing board and came out the loser. Not some little board, either - we're talking an extra wide, heavily supported, metal frame board that came crashing down directly on the top of her left foot. A disabled person's foot, to boot.
So in we go, there we wait, and wait, and wait.... Three ambulances, three separate chest pain patients, one almost severed finger and a death later - and we're still sitting there with the dozen others who came in after us.
Course, when we get back to see someone - everyone's walking around at a snails pace. Joking, laughing with each other, standing around drinking coffee, asking where'd the Christmas cookies get put, etc etc - taking their time. If I acted that way at my job (which is customer service oriented to a degree) - I probably wouldn't have one for long.
It more than proved why it took so long to get in, despite the traffic before us. Meantime, my mother and I haven't eaten all day, she hasn't taken her blood pressure medicine, and she's in pain.
X-rays done, verdict - she didn't break her foot, but they said it's a wonder - due to the severe bruising she's suffered. So, she's back home - foot wrapped, and it's gonna be interesting trying to get her to take her pain pills. Sigh...
But see, that's the end of the week....
How'd it start? Puppy surgery. With complications....
My peke Lii Lii was sick over the X-mas weekend. They told us on Friday (after back and forth trips to the Vet, and antibiotics/anti-inflammatory pills) that she had to have bladder stones removed. So we wait three days, she's getting sicker - and I take her in this past Tues for the surgery. During which they found cysts on her ovaries. So in addition to bladder surgery, they did a hysterectomy on her too. Oh, and fixed a hernia on her stomach.
So she's at home, and not eating. I've been trying to coax her into trying things like peanut butter and baby food chicken, etc. Things she doesn't have to chew. But she's not happy with it. Or with me. See, I'm the one who took her away, handed her over, left her and is now on pill taking and food serving patrol. All things that aren't putting me in her good books.
So the week started with surgery and ended in the ER....
Shit....

I am glad your mom is home and boy do I hate the ER, I had to go with my brother when he was hurt during work and thought he was okay until he came home and realize he was more hurt than he thought and we waited for 5 hours and this was after 8:00 pm.

And you're brother - eek! I've seen more of the ER than I ever wanted this year - had to go twice in 24 hrs earlier this year with an allergic reaction and hives. It wasn't pretty.

What a lousy week! I hope things go much better for you from here on. We all love your wonderful mother just from the great stories you tell us about her. Give her a hug for us and tell her we said to take her pain pills.
I know what you mean about emergency rooms. I was in an accident a few years ago and my youngest daughter made me go in to get checked. We sat for almost four hours in a noticeably NOT busy waiting room. Now, my daughter is not patient and tends to be quite aggressive. She went storming over to the desk and I was called in five minutes later. Nothing serious, thank God, but now I know to take her with me if anything happens again.
And poor little Lii Lii. No wonder she's mad at you. Hopefully she'll forgive you soon. Afterall, you've suffered enough. Now put them all to bed and get some rest yourself.

Mom's not taking the pills...sigh. But is doing better.
Lii Lii - we're still working on her not wanting to eat, but she's getting better too.
