Random search on some of Aidan's more obscure roles yielded rewards tonight. :)

"Runners" - 2009

http://pjdillon.com/runners.html

Film short is a quicktime file - will not embed, so watch it at the link above. Aidan plays the drug dealer that the teenager in the film works for - and he's rather sadistically amused. But there's curls for days - so that's a plus! :)

"The Second Death" - 2000

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9-T10032vs

It's a rather spooky 11 min short that centers around a local Irish bar which is visited by a man who's had a rather bad day on the job. His expression and demeanor is ... haunted. Well - that's one way of putting it.

The bar is run by a woman, played by Michelle Fairley. Two of the patrons are young men who are playing pool. One of them is Aidan Gillen.

That's right - "Game of Thrones" own Littlefinger and Catelyn Stark!!!

See what I meant by random? The short was created by the same team behind "The Guard", btw. Aidan Gillen is about to start working on their next project, entitled "Calvary" - he does so like to work with, and re-work with Irish filmmakers.

"Amazing Grace" - 1998

This is only a clip from the beginning of the short film:

http://www.maevemurphy.net/page14/page11/page11.html

Young Irishman arrives in London, lost at night - looking for a pub of which he can't remember the name. Knows nothing of the city. He meets Grace, a prostitute, who's also from Belfast. This is the story of what happens when she tries to help him find his way.

Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids) and Aiden Gillen (Game of Thrones) have joined Calvary, John Michael McDonagh‘s follow-up to The Guard. According to Variety, the dark comedy/drama stars Brendan Gleeson as a good priest in Sligo, Ireland who’s being tormented by his community. During a confessional, the priest is told that someone is going to kill him with in a week. O’Dowd and Gillen will star alongside Kelly Reilly (Sherlock Holmes) and David Wilmot (The Guard) as members of the community. Filming is set to begin in September.
Why is Zoe Tay so nervous over kissing her co-star?

Kissing on the small screen is no big deal for MediaCorp Ah Jie (big sister in Mandarin) Zoe Tay.

But it's a different proposition when it comes to the big screen.

Tay was a "jumble of nerves" when she learnt that she would have to kiss Irish actor Aiden Gillen for her new arthouse drama, Mister John.

Unlike her former local co-stars, Tay did not know and had never spoken to Gillen before filming began here last Monday.

Principal photography for the film is being done in Singapore over three weeks, moving on to London after that.

Tay also revealed that this is the first time she is starring opposite a Caucasian actor and that she had never kissed one before.

06 Dec 2011 : By Ciara Drohan

http://www.iftn.ie/news/?act1=record&only=1&aid=73&rid=4284518&tpl=archnews&force=1

Irish/UK feature film ‘Shadow Dancer’ has been selected to screen at the Premiere Section at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival (19 – 29 January).

Set in 1990s Belfast, ‘Shadow Dancer’ is based on Tom Bradby’s novel – who also penned the script. The thriller follows a young mother who is arrested in London following an aborted IRA bombing attempt who must either choose to inform on her family or spend the rest of her life behind bars.

The film is directed by Oscar winning filmmaker James Marsh (Project Nim, Man on Wire) and cast includes Clive Owen (Children of Men, Inside Man), Gillian Anderson (The Last King of Scotland) and Andrea Riseborough (Never Let Me Go, W.E). Irish actors include Aidan Gillen (Love/Hate, Game of Thrones) and Domhnall Gleeson (Sensation, True Grit).

Speaking on the selection, Irish producer Ed Guiney of Element Pictures said, “After a brilliant experience at Sundance last year with ‘The Guard’ we are looking forward to launching James' wonderful film to the world at the festival this year.”

’Shadow Dancer’ was shot on location in Dublin during May 2011. Cinematographer on the feature is Rob Hardy (Blitz, Boy A), with costumes by Lorna Marie Mugan (Treasure Island, Intermission) and production designer Jon Henson (Last Chance Harvey, Boy A).

The film is a co-production between Unanimous Entertainment, Element Pictures and French WildBunch Production in association with LipSync Productions. It is funded by the BBC, BFI, UK Tax Credit, WildBunch, Section 481 and the Irish Film Board.

’Shadow Dancer’ joins other Irish pic ‘Grabbers’ in the Sundance selection which was announced last week. Further info available from www.sundance.org
